A baby boy died when a golf cart he and six members of his family were riding in struck a pothole and overturned near the Trump National Golf Club in North Carolina, according to cops.
The accident in Moorseville on Sunday night caused the cart, which was loaded with three adults and four children, to suffer a “mechanical malfunction,” leading to the crash, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Two adults riding in the front of the cart were holding 1-year-old Kipton Jester, who died, and another 1-year-old, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said. A pair of 3-year-old girls were in the back, along with another adult.
“A golf cart was traveling north on Pintail Run Lane when it struck a pothole,” said Master Trooper Jeffrey Swagger. “This caused a mechanical malfunction in the steering and the golf cart overturned. The occupants were ejected, except for the 3-year-olds who were restrained by seat belts.”
All seven are from the same family, said Swagger.
They were taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where baby Kipton was pronounced dead. The others were treated for “varying levels of non-life threatening injuries,” Swagger said.
Charges are not expected in the tragic crash.
