Golf Tip: How C-Posture can affect your swing - Florida Today

Q: I got paired up with a foursome last week and we started talking after words about golf and the guy told me I had C posture. Could you explain to me what that is and how it would effect my golf swing.

— Jerry

A: The C-posture is described as an excessive roundness in your upper back. Golfers with C posture have that rounded back look when they setup to the ball.

Most people who have this C- Posture are creatures of their environment- sitting at a desk, bending over doing their work for long periods of time. Being in a certain position for extend periods of time will have an effect on how our body adapts to the position.

If you have C- Posture it doesn't mean you can't play golf. There are professionals that have this and play very well, it's just understanding how you have to swing the golf club based on your strength and flexibility. One of the biggest limitations in the golf swing with people that have C-Posture is the limited ability to make a full turn in your backswing. So instead of turning they have a tendency to lift their arms in the backswing and not turn.

C-Posture can be fixed by learning how to bend from the hip sockets and not flex from the upper spine, plus exercises that will improve strength and flexibility. So, if you have and want to improve your overall health and golf swing, you need to contact a physical therapist, trainer or a certified TPI Professional to help you with this.

The beauty of the game of golf is there are no physical requirements to play and you can play it at any age. You just have to know your limitations.

Have fun and enjoy the game
