CHICAGO (AP) - While competing in the BMW Championship outside Chicago this week, Tiger Woods also is backing a redesign of a golf course in the city.

Woods, along with NBC/Golf Channel analyst Mark Rolfing, are spearheading the $30 million project in Jackson Park. Woods‘ TGR Design is the South Side golf course’s lead architect.

Days after her election earlier this year, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she wasn’t enthused about the golf course. However, she said Tuesday she is willing to meet with Woods about his plans.

The proposed redesigned course, a merger of a once-private eight-hole facility with the larger, public Jackson Park Golf Course, is controversial because it would require street closings and impact a nature preserve.

Woods has said he’s behind the project because he wants to work with former President Barack Obama, who personally asked him to get involved. Obama has chosen to locate his presidential center in Jackson Park.
