I may have a solution to closing Wesselman's Par-3 golf course. Turn the lights back on! When I was in high school, we would play there all the time and it was packed. Most people work day shift and with the daylight getting shorter, there's no time left to squeeze in a round.
Until it gets bitterly closed, with most other summer activities finished, there's not much else to do in the fall. And besides, it's fun! The ball goes above the lights and that adds a bit of mystery, waiting to see if you landed on the green until you're a "duffer" who hits "worm burners" every shot.
Evansville is closing enough past traditions and landmarks. Why not give it a couple months before taking another easy way out and making this golf course just another memory?
