Fall Golf Means New All-Weather Gear: Here’s The Latest - Forbes

As leaves fall and temperatures drop in parts of the country, some golfers put away their golf clubs for the season. Many others, the true golfers, prepare for the beauty and unpredictability of fall and winter golf over the final few months of the year.

As the calendar flipped to October, several of the game’s biggest brands released apparel specifically designed to extend the golf season: Acushnet, Callaway and adidas among them.

Acushnet unveiled a line of performance outerwear that includes the all-new DryJoys Select LS, which FootJoy says is the most breathable and waterproof garment its ever produced – the result of three years of testing and validation. It’s thin and lightweight, with a stretch that doesn’t impede your golf swing, and a soft, flexible feel. Incredibly, the fabric weighs less than a standard golf shirt, but is 100 percent waterproof and designed to perform in the most extreme weather conditions.

“It is the ultimate waterproof layer shell that is so light, it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all,” says PJ Skurla, Senior Apparel Designer for FootJoy.

The DryJoys Select LS line features three full-zip rain jackets, two half-zip rain shirts and rain pants.

adidas Golf rolled out a new layering collection called Frostguard that features both jackets and vests with down-filled panels in the front and back body.

The idea of Frostguard is to keep golfers warm where it matters most, in their core. At the same time, those areas are designed to be lightweight and not bulky. Other features include woven bonding on the down-filled panels to provide all-around wind protection, and knit side panels and sleeves that provide better mobility and a comfortable feel.

Callaway Apparel introduced its 2019 Weather Series, a lineup that combines fiber technology and performance-enhancing materials in the new SWING TECH construction found in almost every piece.

“The result is what we believe to be the newest gold standard in performance outerwear,” says Gina Avila, the Executive Vice President of Design & Marketing for Callaway Apparel.

Among the featured pieces in the men’s Weather Series are the StormGuard Waterproof jacket and pants, the SWING TECH Waffle Fleece, the SWING TECH Outlast quarter-zip, and a line of SWING TECH windshirts that defend against wind and water.

In addition to DryJoy Select LS, FootJoy is offering a versatile outerwear piece called FJ HydroKnit that combines the feel of a mid-layer and the function of a rain jacket.

Lightweight, comfortable and breathable, the 4-way stretch material in the FJ HydroKnit allows for full freedom of motion during the golf swing. It also has a water repellent face coating that forces water to bead up on the outer layer, preventing saturation, and is 100 percent wind proof.
