As 2019 draws to a close, the NorthJersey.com sports staff is looking back on the best athletes to come through Bergen and Passaic counties in the last decade.
Here, we present the All-Decade Girls Golf Team.
VOTE: Who was North Jersey's best girls golfer of the 2010s?
Cindy Ha
NV/Demarest, Class of 2014
Ha was a four-year standout on a co-ed team and cracked the top 7 at the State Girls Championship each season. Her finishes of sixth, sixth, fourth and seventh each marked the best finish by a North Jerseyan.
Ha won the Bergen County title as a senior. She was North Jersey Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014. She played at Vanderbilt.
Nicole Kim
Bergen Tech, Class of 2015
Kim was super steady and lifted the Knights to their first bid to the State Championship in 2014.
Kim cracked the Top 4 at the Bergen County Championship all four years. She won the Big North title in 2013 and 2015. She had a trio of Top 15 finishes at the State Championship, featuring ninth as a senior. She attends Brown.
Yoona Kim
Immaculate Heart, Class of 2020
Kim has been among the state’s best her first three years. She won this year’s State Championship with 2-under 70 and led IHA to second place, best finish by a North Jersey team this decade.
Kim was fourth as a freshman and eighth as a sophomore at the State Championship. She won this year’s Bergen County title and North Jersey Player of the Year.
Phoebe Mattana
Dwight-Englewood, Class of 2014
Mattana is the best girl to come out of the small-school NJIC. She won the NJIC crown in 2012 and 2013.
Mattana cracked the top four at the Bergen County Championship all four years, placing third as a freshman and sophomore and second as a junior. She was ninth at the State Championship in 2013. She played at Williams College.
Christina Paulsen
Immaculate Heart, Class of 2012
Paulsen was a four-year stalwart who broke the Top 20 at the State Championship her final three years, featuring 10th as a junior.
Paulsen won the inaugural Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational in 2011. She won the 2011 and 2012 Bergen County titles in playoffs. She was North Jersey Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012. She played at Rutgers.
Yeji Shin
NV/Old Tappan, Class of 2015
Shin was a four-year stalwart who spent her first three years on the co-ed boys’ team.
Shin was fourth at the Bergen Championship as a freshman, third as a sophomore, runner-up as a junior, and champion as a senior with 1-under 71. Her best finish at the State Championship was fifth in 2015. She played at Texas Christian.
Kelly Sim
Holy Angels, Class of 2018
Sim won an NJSIAA record-tying three State Girls championships. She won as a freshman, sophomore and senior, joining Tom River North’s Sukjin Lee Wuesthoff, who won her third straight as a junior in 2004.
Sim was a two-time Bergen County titlist and four-time North Jersey Player of the Year. She competes for Northwestern.
