TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Men’s Golf team prepares for its seventh visit to the Cabo Collegiate, which begins Sunday at the Cove Club Golf Course.
After being at the Querencia Golf Club for eight of the past nine years, the tournament moves to a new golf course. Cove Club is a 6,807-yard par 71 course.
Florida State is one of 15 teams playing in the tournament, which features three rounds Sunday-Tuesday. The other teams include Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Rice, Houston, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, California, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Arizona, Alabama, LSU and Stanford.
FSU begins play at 11 a.m. EST/9 a.m. MST, as all golfers will have a shot-gun start. FSU’s five-player lineup includes redshirt freshman Cole Anderson, junior John Pak, senior Jamie Li, sophomore Calvin Sierota and sophomore Alberto Martinez. Freshman Fletcher Wunderlich is also playing as an individual.
Pak is coming off back-to-back wins at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, giving him seven collegiate wins for second all-time at FSU. Pak only trails Nolan Henke, who won eight tournaments from 1983-87 with the Seminoles.
The Seminoles have shown improvement in their two spring tournaments, winning in Mobile and finishing fourth at last weekend’s Seminole Intercollegiate. FSU’s best showing ever at the Cabo Collegiate, which always features a strong field, came in 2015 when it won the tournament at 7-under.
Li is second on FSU in scoring average, shooting 70.60 this year (includes fall and spring). He tied for eighth in Mobile when he carded a 7-under 209 (71-70-68).
